The All
Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated the governor of Edo state,
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on his emergence as the Chairman of the South South
Governors Forum.
Chairman
of the south south zone of the APC, Prince Hilliard Eta congratulated
Oshiomhole on behalf of the party through a press statement issued on Sunday.
In the
statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Bassey Ita, and
made available to journalist in Calabar, the zonal vice chairman said Oshiomhole
has the capability of bringing his wealth of experience in public life and as
an architect of grassroots development to bear in the improvement of the
socio-economic and environmental status of the south south region.
He
expressed the hope that Oshiomhole will strategically apply the stately
carriage attribute for which he is known in canvassing massive support for
regional integration of the south south states.
Eta said
by integrating the south south states, Oshiomhole would achieve the objective
for which the BRACED (Bayelsa,Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and
Delta states) Commission was established.
Eta said
though the new position imposes additional responsibility on Oshiomhole, he was
confident the governor has the ability to rise up to the challenge and define a
new sense of direction for the BRACED states.
He said
over the years, the BRACED Commission under the leadership of the immediate
past chairman and former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, failed to
chart a way out of the multifarious cases of environmental degradation,
economic losses and insecurity within the south south region.
In line
with tradition, Oshiomhole would also assume the position of chairman of the
BRACED states.
Oshiomhole
succeeds Imoke who formally handed over to him on May 27 at the Calabar
International Conference Centre (CICC).
